Hello, I am writing you today as a concerned resident of Lansing. The presence of Automatic License Plate Readers in our city, such as the ones manufactured and operated by Flock Safety, is unacceptable to me. These cameras do not increase public safety, and instead are a shift away from proven, community based strategies of reducing crime and towards a world of mass surveillance for the benefit of tech billionaires. They are a violation of our community’s rights and privacy, and have no place in Lansing.
I’m requesting that you cancel the contract that the city currently has with Flock Safety, and commit to public safety strategies that do not rely on AI-powered surveillance tools.
